The Chill of Solar Minimum

The TIMED satellite monitoring the temperature of the upper atmosphere

27 September 2018: The sun is entering one of the deepest Solar Minima of the Space Age. Sunspots have been absent for most of 2018, and the sun’s ultraviolet output has sharply dropped. New research shows that Earth’s upper atmosphere is responding.

Introducing the Thermosphere Climate Index

26 October 2018

The Thermosphere Climate Index (TCI) is now on Spaceweather.com. TCI is a relatively new space weather metric that tells us how the top of Earth’s atmosphere (or “thermosphere”) is responding to solar activity. During Solar Max the top of our atmosphere heats up and expands. Right now the opposite is happening. Solar minimum is here and the thermosphere is cooling off.

There are many devices on the market such as LED lights, dimmers, and many other domestic appliances that create  RF noise that interference with amateur radio operation. Some create so much noise that they make an radio communication impossible.

It would be ideal to list these devices so that they could be black listed but that could create a legal problem as  we would have to back-up noise claims with scientific studies carried out in accredited test laboratories.
